Hassan Al Rawas is a Lebanese theatre director based in London. Born and raised in Kuwait City, Hassan brings an international perspective shaped by a life lived across continents and cultures that have deepened his commitment to theatre as a space for community, healing, and radical storytelling.
Hassan holds an MFA in Directing and an MA in Performance from Northwestern University, along with a certificate in Middle East/North African Studies. His work spans bold reinterpretations of classics and the development of urgent new plays. He approaches each project with a unique point of view grounded in his numerous travels and international upbringing.
Hassan has directed Little Women at Quintessence Theatre in Philadelphia, Ibsen's Rosmersholm at Quintessence, Stephen Karam's adaptation of The Cherry Orchard, The Orange Garden by Joanna Garner, Les Misérables, and Sylvia by A.R. Gurney. As an assistant and associate director, he worked on the world premiere of Jen Silverman's Witch directed by Marti Lyons at Writers Theatre in Chicago, the world premiere of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein directed by David Catlin at Lookingglass Theatre, and served as Associate Director on The Devil Wears Prada with Tony Award-winner Anna D. Shapiro during its 2019-2020 pre-Broadway development. He was also assistant director and dramaturg on New Jibla, a new musical at the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Center in Kuwait City.
Hassan is currently collaborating with playwright Jacob A. Greenberg on The United States vs. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, a new play exploring democracy, justice and the war on terror. He founded The IMPROVengers, Kuwait's first improv comedy troupe, and has performed across the United States and the Middle East as an actor in plays, musicals, and sketch comedy. He is also a theatre educator and performance coach.
Hassan is in the UK on a High Potential Individual visa and available for directing, assisting, and teaching opportunities.
